Fashion
Spectrum was one of several high-end, oversized glossy magazines that came
on to the scene in the mid-90s hoping to capitalize on the growing chic-dom
of South Beach. The target audience was the hip, chic and fashion-focused
trend setters who were beginning to call South Beach home. From the models
and designers to the rich and famous and the wannabes, they craved
magazines that catered to them. And Fashion Spectrum did just that, and
then some.
Initially
Newman rejected the mag's offer to join its team, including the potential
to come on board as its editor-in-chief, but after some coaxing he agreed
to serve as its music editor. His monthly columns offered humor and
irreverence, and fast became a must read for those who "got" it.
